Tooth-Colored Fillings

Dental fillings are a very common dental procedure that can range from very basic to extensive, all in the same appointment. They are among the most common procedures that patients undergo in their dentist office.

There are mainly two types of dental fillings, silver and white. Silver filings are often the most common and cost effective. They are also called Amalgam fillings and are typically used in molars or hidden portions of teeth. White fillings can be made with either resin or porcelain. The resin option is used in smaller fillings and typically only last a few years. Porcelain fillings are the more expensive option, comparable to gold fillings which used to be very popular.

The main purpose of fillings is to close off a hole or space where decay is present and which allows for bacteria to move inside the pulp of the tooth. This could cause a range of problems including tooth pain, abscesses and additional decay. You can expect the application of a local anethetic, removal of existing decay with a drill or laser, application of filling and polishing during the dental filling process.

An oral examination is required to determine if you need a filling. Call today to schedule your next exam at Pineview Dental Care.
